It seems to me that a new year is a lot like a fresh box of crayons.  I loved getting a new box of crayons as a child (and was likely to save them as not; I always wanted a sharp point for when the muse spoke to me).  I still do.

A new year is a clean slate, like a chance to start a fresh design with a clean sheet of paper.  A brand-new box of colors, each one fresh, whole, bright, untouched.  Every crayon sharp, ready for action.
