Concert at the newish Museo Medici
On a recent evening, I enjoyed a lovely a cappella quartet at a very old palazzo that has recently opened in Florence as the Museo Medici. The singers were wonderful and the small room was perfect for a very intimate performance.
The furnishings in the old room were lovely, including 2 remarkable chandeliers.
Sacré-Cœur Basilica, Paris
The best way I know to spend a Saturday afternoon on a spectacular sunny winter afternoon in Paris is to climb to the top of hill to visit the beautiful Sacré-Cœur Basilica and look out at the panoramic view of Paris. It’s a hike, but it’s well worth it!
Look at that sky!

The interior:
This church has figured out how to hold mass and let visitors circulate around the church at the same time. It feels right.
Although it isn’t obvious in my pictures, the statues of Mary and the other one of Jesus are both in silver. They remind me of the statue I saw in the Musee d-Orsay.
Even though it was well past Christmas and Epiphany, the creche scene was still on display. Very modern and simple rendition. I guess I’m very accustomed to the more elaborate Italian mode!
The mosaics are splendid. The Holy Trinity in one shot here:
Wait a second, for a minute I thought I was in the Vatican!
Russians in Florence
My friend and I were rendezvousing at the Piazza San Marco recently and noticed that there was music pouring out of the door leading to a small cortile to the left of the church. We followed the sound and happened upon a troupe of Russian singers and dancers who were performing in the beautiful autumn afternoon under the 500 year old roof of the cortile.
Amazing.
Florence is endlessly fascinating.
Amazing grace and sound
Dateline: Florence, Tuesday evening around 8 p.m., in my favorite Florentine piazza, Santa Trinita. How this lovely woman can master this space with her voice, while cars and Vespas are whizzing by, is a marvel to me.
For absolutely no good reason: a movie clip and a music clip

Song and Pain by Igor Gurney
I saw this yesterday in St. Paul’s Cathedral. It is beautiful.
RIP Igor Gurney.
