I cut these lively zinnias yesterday, knowing that cold weather was arriving last night.

Because I woke up to this this morning!

Rudy and I share a love of Japanese design and how it reveals itself in their ceramics. He spent a while admiring the beautiful wares at Takashimaya and shared these pictures and videos with me.

My favorite piece above is the square plate with the river design. Wish we had a close-up! Sigh.

In the picture above, I especially like the top left abstracted flower design. Is that a daisy, do you suppose? I also like the middle right plate with the blue fruit on a tree branch.

This lovely young artist was demonstrating ceramic painting technique in the store while Rudy was there and the gregarious young man struck up a conversation with her and even took his picture with her! I love this guy!

The beauty I see on a normal daily walk this time of year is almost unreal!

At my request, Rudy spent some time on Sunday in the kimono department of the Takashimaya store. These were the few photos and one video he sent me. I’m hoping I can get him to return and spend a few hours looking at the various components, fabrics, and finished kimono.
Because this is just a tantalizing taste! I want more, much more! And details!

At my request, Rudy returned to Ginza this past weekend and spent an afternoon exploring the 3 buildings of the famous Takashimaya department store. Oh, how I wish I could have been with him!

Above and below is a model of the original store, created in Legos!

The artist who created the Lego version of the store is pictured above.
Like me, Rudy was fascinated by the staff of the store, dressed as they are in uniforms and performing functions that are a throw back to the 1950s in America. In Japan, courtesy never goes out of style.
There will be much more to come from Rudy’s last escapade, so stay tuned. Thanks for sharing Rudy!
