Today in Florence

Random shots on a random day, dopo la classe, dopo la test, molto buono.

From a yarn shop near school:

Classic Vespa siting.   Always makes me smile:

We had a strong thunder storm last evening and what these pictures from today don’t completely reveal is how gorgeous today is!  Sunny, cool, fresh, clean, perfetto!

Piazza Santo Spirito.  La signora vende i prodotti.

La merenda perfetta!

Let’s say it’s about 11 a.m. and you need a little pick me up.  How about a slice of focaccia baked with fresh grapes (it’s autumn, this is a seasonal snack) and a great cappuccino?

Perchè no?

This is the snack they must serve in heaven any day around 11 a.m.

Tutte le conoscenze know that you would never have this snack in the afternoon.  Milk in the stomach after lunch is something only per i bambini.

Let there be light! Sia la luce!

Look at this beautiful Florentine store, filled from floor to rafters with elegant lighting choices!

I happened upon the store while wandering around the Oltrarno oggi.  I had planned to pay a visit to Chiesa Santo Spirito, only to discover the church is closed on Wednesdays.  Who knew!?

Not to worry, when in Florence, there is always something new to see.

I have adored these lamps with half shades all of my life.  Eventually I will have to purchase one!  Haven’t found the right one yet, but I’m still looking.

The chandelier above was hung just inside the workroom doorway and was hung at body level and is bigger than I am.

The Chinese are coming! The Chinese are coming!

Actually, they are already here (and everywhere else)!    You have to be careful in Florence if you don’t want to get swept up in an avalanche on Chinese tourists as you walk through any major area.  I long for winter, when the hoards are gone.

I am so fortunate to live on a fabulous medieval street that is little changed from its beginnings.  In many parts of Florence, old buildings have made way for new ones in many areas.  On my street, the fabric of the city is pretty much the same as when Michelangelo walked these streets.

And so, my street is often discussed by tour guides.  Last week, as I left home for school in the morning, this group of Chinese tourists assembled at the opening of my street and for a moment, it felt like I was a fish in a fishbowl and they were looking at me.  It was a strange feeling, but it passed.

But, I do know how Florence feels, being looked at all of the time!
